Shibori: Japanese Tie Dye with Robyn
About
Shibori is a traditional Japanese style of decorative dyeing - a bit like tie dye but also a bit more intentional. In this class we'll be combining shibori dyeing with sashiko embroidery to create lovely stitches and patterns.Come along and combine art and textiles and you stitch your own patterns to be transformed through the dyeing process.
In this Shibori class Robyn will help you design, prepare, stitch and dye. All materials provided.
This class doesn't require any sewing experience.
What will we cover?
In this hands-on class Robyn will cover:
History of sashiko and shibori - materials, uses, ingredients
Preparing fabrics, including basic sewing stitch and pattern making
Preparing dye
Dying process
We'll be making 6 different calico swatches with 6 different designs
Who will be teaching?
Robyn Bunting is a reuse, repurpose and remake enthusiast who is the owner of the studio and business ‘Harold and Maude‘ on level 2 of the Nicholas Building, that focuses on recycling, repurposing and remaking. Robyn has spent 35 years working in theatre, film and television industry making all sorts of things using sewing technique of all types.
Cost $25 - includes all materials and artwork to take home.
