Pre-Conference Workshop 2

Friday, 23 October 2026| 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM (AEDT)
Whither The Frame: Or, in Modern Parlance, To What Place or State?
Deborah Chisholm & Astika Kappagoda

What is The Frame, and how does it function in contemporary psychotherapy?

This interactive workshop explores the origins, evolution and clinical significance of the psychotherapeutic frame—from its psychoanalytic foundations to contemporary relational practice. Drawing particularly on the Conversational Model, Deborah Chisholm and Astika Kappagoda will consider the frame not simply as a set of rules or boundaries, but as a dynamic relational structure that shapes safety, feeling, dialogue and therapeutic change.

The afternoon will combine presentations, clinical reflection and discussion, culminating in an interactive panel where delegates can raise challenging questions about frame adherence, rupture, boundaries and the realities of contemporary practice.

The final panel may include clinical material and will not be recorded.
