COURSE OVERVIEW

HLTAID012 – First Aid for Early Childhood and Education Settings

Delivered by Community Languages Victoria (CLV) in partnership with CPR First Aid, a nationally recognised Registered Training Organisation (RTO No. 21903), this nationally recognised course is designed for teachers, staff and volunteers working with young children.

HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting has been approved by the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) and satisfies the first aid requirements under the Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations.

The course provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to respond to emergency situations involving infants, children and adults, including CPR, asthma and anaphylaxis management, until medical assistance arrives.

Please note
This course includes HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
You do not need to book the separate CPR course if you are enrolling in this course.

TOPICS COVERED

  • Perform CPR on adult, child and infant manikins
  • Place a casualty in the recovery position
  • Manage an unconscious breathing casualty
  • Respond to choking, regurgitation and vomiting
  • Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), including paediatric pads
  • Respond to simulated first aid scenarios in education and community settings
  • Treat allergic reactions, asthma emergencies and anaphylaxis
  • Apply first aid procedures for common childhood illnesses and injuries
  • Understand legal responsibilities and workplace procedures
  • Complete written and verbal incident reports

DELIVERY MODE

This course consists of:

  • Online theory and assessment (must be completed before attending the practical session)
  • 3.5-hour face-to-face practical session

Participants who do not complete the online component before the deadline will not be permitted to attend the practical training.

ADDITIONAL SUPPORT

Community Languages Victoria is committed to making this training as accessible as possible.
During registration, participants will be asked whether they require any language, literacy, numeracy or digital (LLND) support. This information allows us to notify the training provider in advance so that appropriate assistance can be arranged where required.

⚠️ IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS

  • A valid USI (Unique Student Identifier) is required to receive certification.
  • Online theory and assessment must be completed before attending the practical session.
  • Participants must attend the session they have booked.
  • Please ensure your full legal name matches your identification and USI records.

BOOKING TERMS

To confirm participant numbers with the training provider, all bookings are final and non-refundable.
If you are unable to attend, you may request a transfer to another available session (subject to availability) for a $25 administration fee.
