3 Days of Ukulele Workshops: 4 workshops per day
For soprano, concert and tenor ukuleles only. NOT bass or baritone ukuleles.
Please note that any workshops that have the same title as the workshops run in previous years at Wirrina Cove will be covering different material. No workshop will be the same.
Participants must have a basic knowledge of the commonly played chords.
Participants must bring their own ukulele, a music stand, a plectrum and a pencil.
Bring a high G and a low G ukulele.
Bring your own display folder to put workshop notes in.
Bring a large notebook to write things down.
Cost: $300 early bird booking before 24 October - including the workshop notes.
$355 if booking on or after 24 October – including workshop notes.

Tuesday 24:
10am – 11am: Ensemble playing. Getting everyone on board with reading TAB, understanding timing and playing together - being aware of how to stay in time.
11:30am – 12:30pm: Effective fingering. The most efficient way to play a tune. How to improve your tone.
1:30 – 2:30pm: Get creative. How to write your own strumming patterns. Chord hammer-ons will be looked at.
3 – 4pm: Get more creative. Song writing. Looking at what makes up a song. Making a start writing your own song.

Wednesday 25
10am – 11am: How to build strength in your hand to play successful barre chords. Not a quick fix, but gives you a plan to work with. Playing a couple of songs with easy barre chords.
11:30am – 12:30pm: Playing common chord shapes over the fretboard. How to work out new chords up the fretboard.
1:30 – 2:30pm: Get creative. How to write your own plucking patterns.
3 – 4pm: Get more creative. Delving deeper into that song you are writing. How to add variety to a song arrangement.

Thursday 26
10am – 11am: Learning about fret zones over the fretboard. How this knowledge allows you to confidently play tunes that have notes in lots of different places. Playing some tunes with guided fingering.
11:30am – 12:30pm: Now looking at some tunes that have no guided fingering. How to analyse the TAB to work out where you are going. Using a plectrum. Playing a couple of Irish tunes. This introduces the skills to play Irish tunes in sessions – not as a chord player, but as a tune player. These tunes are not in the Campanella style.
1:30 – 2:30pm: Campanella ukulele for high G ukulele. Playing some easy tunes to get you hooked on this lovely style of playing.
3 – 4pm: Last look at your songs. How to be impartial about what you have written. Staying open to letting your song evolve.
