Music from the Edges
About
Step into vibrant worlds created by musical ‘rebels’ of the Baroque and Classical eras in a concert celebrating beautiful works written by outsiders, whether from the edges of acceptable society or from the edges of the known world. Join the Bach Society of Queensland as we explore works by some lesser-known composers with large stories, who made their mark on the musical landscape of their time despite high walls and closed doors. From the devotion of religious outsiders, the fierce passion of female composers, the finely-honed craft of mixed-race and enslaved writers, and the bold artistry of travellers far from home, the musicians featured in this programme built their own empires of beauty on the edges of their worlds.
