About
Visible Darning Workshop for Fine Knitwear and SocksIf your fine knitwear garments (e.g. Merino tops or leggings, jumpers, hats) or wool-mix socks have holes from snags, moths or general wear and tear, then this darning workshop is for you!
In this 2-hour workshop we will cover
• how to repair fine woollen garments and socks (we will cover two types of darns, with written instructions provided), and
• how to prevent / discourage moths from attacking your woollen clothes.
Please bring along a couple of pieces of woollen clothing to work on during the session.
• You will receive advice and support in mending your clothing yourself.
• You will be encouraged to do a visible darn first, to learn the process.
What to bring
In addition to one or two items of woollen clothing, please bring along the following items to help with your repairs if you have them:
• a wooden darning mushroom (or a firm orange) and a rubber band or a piece of thin elastic,
• a round-tipped darning / tapestry needle and scissors,
• a needle threader,
• safety pin,
• darning wool/ yarn that is the same weight as your item, in contrasting colour for a visible mend, or matching colour for an invisible mend.
• a craft lamp or head lamp for good lighting
• a magnifying lens and/or reading glasses.
Alternatively, for an additional $15.00 order a Starter Darning Kit with a few basics to get you started (see details below).
Costs
$3.00 Workshop fee (payable in cash on the day)
OPTIONAL ADD ON - - $15.00 for Starter Darning Kit (contains: a wooden darning mushroom, a round tipped needle, a needle threader, and a selection of darning yarns.)
