About
Learn • Dance • Connect
Ever wished Perth had a little Garba community of its own?
We're starting with a simple idea:
Get together. Learn some new Garba steps. Dance. Meet people. Eat some good food. And build a Garba crew along the way. ❤️
Come join us for Garba Social Perth — a relaxed 2-hour evening of guided Garba workshop, connection and a community potluck. This isn't a Navratri concert or a big Garba night; it's a small, social Garba gathering with guided learning at its heart.
I'll be teaching the Garba steps and sequences throughout the session, so whether you're looking to learn something new, brush up on your skills or simply get back into Garba after a while — come along!
✨ WHAT TO EXPECT
-
Learn: We'll work through new Garba steps, combinations and sequences together.
-
Dance: Once we've learnt the steps, we'll put them together and actually dance! No standing at the back watching.
-
Connect: Meet other Gujjus and Indian Garba lovers in Perth and make some new connections.
-
Eat: We'll finish with a community potluck (because where there are Gujjus, there is food!)
🪔 WHO IS THIS FOR?
Ages 16+ only.
Whether you're:
🌱 Completely new to Garba
💃🏽 Someone who knows a few steps
🔥 Someone who grew up doing Garba
🪔 Missing Navratri celebrations from back home
👯♀️ Looking for a fun evening with friends
🫶🏽 New to Perth and looking to meet people
No previous Garba experience needed. No partner needed. Come solo, bring your friends, or come with family members.
🥘 COMMUNITY POTLUCK
We're making this a community-style potluck. If you'd like, bring a small vegetarian Gujarati/Indian snack or sweet to share and add it to our community food table.
A few simple guidelines:
🥬 100% vegetarian. No meat, fish, chicken, or eggs.
🏠 Homemade or store-bought is fine
🥟 Think dhokla, khandvi, fafda, thepla bites, handvo, samosa, farsan, Indian sweets, and similar shareable foods.
🚫 Please don't bring biscuit/cookie packets, wafers, chips, or similar packaged snacks. We want a proper community food table, not a supermarket aisle!
🍱 Bring a small shareable quantity; you don't need to cater for everyone.
🏷️ If possible, label dishes containing common allergens.
Bringing food is completely optional. Come for the Garba even if you don't bring anything.
👗 WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Whatever you're comfortable practicing steps and dancing in. Flat, comfortable shoes are recommended — you'll be on your feet and moving.
Traditional wear is welcome if you want to bring it out, but this session is about learning, not dressing up — so come as you are.
🎟️ ONLY 30 SPOTS
This is intentionally a small first gathering. Once all 30 spots are booked, registrations will close. If there's enough interest, there may be an opportunity to open another Garba session before Navratri.
