In 2020 long time colleagues Ben Dix and Dan McKay joined forces as Australia’s newest guitar duo for their first recitals for the Melbourne Guitar Festival’s Recital Series. Making their debut in livestream recitals the pair are best known for their work within the Melbourne Guitar Quartet, with whom they somehow managed to release the CD ‘Blood Oath’ during the ravages of a brutal Melbourne lockdown.
Ben and Dan are thrilled to bring an exciting program of works for guitar duo from Europe to Australia, from the Baroque to modern periods. For decades both Ben and Dan have performed and broadcast widely throughout Australia for some of the country’s leading concert halls, chamber music presenters, guitar festivals and societies.
In this recital, major works by JS Bach sit alongside the music by Australian and European composers. The duo will perform Ulrich Stracke’s transcription of Bach/Busoni’s Chaconne BWV 1004 in D minor, breathing new life into this monumental and virtuosic work. Ben and Dan are also thrilled to present two major works written for them by Robert Davidson and Robbie Melville, as well as some exciting new additions to their ever expanding repertoire.
