Chinese Floral Art: The Art of Basket Arrangement
About
Chinese floral art has a long and rich tradition, with six classic forms of flower arrangement defined by their vessels: vase, dish, basket, cylinder, jar and bowl arrangements. For this special Mid-Autumn Festival workshop, we invite you to discover the art of basket flower arrangement.
Known for its natural, graceful and poetic character, basket arrangement brings together flowers, foliage and the woven texture of the basket to create a sense of harmony and movement. Rather than appearing overly formal or symmetrical, the composition often embraces open space, flowing lines and the natural character of each plant, reflecting the Chinese aesthetic appreciation of balance, seasonality and understated elegance.
Guided by Professor Xu Yueping and designed and instructed by Lecturer Liu Jie, this workshop offers an opportunity to explore the principles and beauty of traditional Chinese floral art through hands-on practice.
Join us this Mid-Autumn Festival and create your own basket arrangement while discovering the cultural ideas and aesthetics behind this elegant tradition.
