Robert Connolly is an acclaimed Australian screen producer, director, and writer. His film The Dry was both a critical and commercial success, followed by the sequel Force of Nature. He followed this with the environmental “fable for all ages” Blueback, screening at the Toronto International Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival, followed by The Surfer which premiered in the Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival in 2025.
Through his production company, Arenamedia, Connolly has directed and produced a wide range of acclaimed projects, including Balibo, The Boys, Romulus, My Father, and The Turning. His family Paper Planes was a huge commercial hit in Australian cinemas. Arenamedia has also championed emerging First Nations filmmakers, including Jub Clerc (Sweet As) and Stephen Page (Spear).
On television, Robert was one of the featured directors of the International Emmy nominated limited series The Slap, with other credits including Barracuda for NBC Universal, and the political thriller Deep State starring Mark Strong.
Connolly most recently directed children's film Magic Beach (2025) and is currently in post production on an adaption of Nikki Gemmell's Shiver shot in the Antarctic, continuing his focus on ambitious Australian storytelling across film and television.
