Step into the smoky, swinging world of Billie Holiday and her favourite saxophonist, Lester Young, as timeless songs capture the sound and spirit of a golden age of jazz.
Led by Paula Hackney and Andrew Garton, a hand-picked ensemble of Brisbane’s leading jazz musicians’ traces Holiday’s landmark recordings with Teddy Wilson, her later performances, and the unforgettable Lester Young years.
Paula’s soulful vocals and Andrew’s expressive saxophone are matched by a vibrant rhythm section. Together, the band captures the conversational spark, warmth and spontaneity at the heart of this music, bringing Holiday’s best-known songs to life.
