History Sings
About
Colin Mockett was awarded the Order Of Australia Medal in 2023 for services to the Arts, History and Tourism. He’s combining all three in a package for his show at the Courthouse .
Colin is a Victorian writer, performer and historian known for blending history with entertainment. A former journalist, he was behind Geelong’s Concert of The Decade series which filled the 1400-seat Costa Hall annually for 9 years; the Englishman Irishman & Scotsman comedy series that filled the same venue annually for the National Celtic Festival. For us - he will be conducting a History Sings! community singalong based on 1950s songs, adverts and and gatherings throughout Australia, when residents filled community halls to sing the hits of the day with the words printed on butcher’s paper. Colin’s session won’t use butchers paper. He’ll have the words digitally reproduced on screen, along with adverts and scenes from the times. And… Many of these songs will be familiar to Boomers as they have been taken from songbooks and pop charts of the time.
In the 1950s community singing was regarded as healthy for both exercise and social building. So please come along and enjoy a lusty sing - a slice of musical history! home made cakes and a glass or two of Clare Valley Wine.
