About
SAND BROTHERS burst onto the Australian music scene in 2023 with their debut album TOO MUCH SKY. The band has since then been deep in the studio wilderness, crafting a second album that is soon seeing the light of day – kicking off in late 2026 with lead single STRANGE LIGHTS - a hypnotic, swirling affair of hooky Mancunian synths and fever-spun lyrics.
The song is a cool slice of psych pop daydream for the Australian summer.
Sand Brothers are helmed by multi-instrumentalists Greg Walker (Machine Translations), Rick Sands (The Night Party) and Pete Cook (Yamamoto).
The band will be reforming its original line-up to celebrate the release, featuring Din Roberts on bass and Glen Scarlett on drums.
Support on the night will be from local up-and-coming singer songwriter, Noah Wright.
Some reviews of their debut album Too Much Sky:
“A brilliant debut album...classic song arrangements, imaginative lyrics...a gorgeous mix of light and shade. The whole thing is vibrant and upbeat…it’s got an easy rolling grandeur.”
Ian McFarlane, Rhythms Magazine
There is in Too Much Sky a sonic ambition to match the lyrical one: space and grandeur suggested in Stolen Poetry; the long horizon counterintuitively evoked in Dead End Road; a febrile tension in Tied to You; a glistening haze in Adelaide. It is in a very real sense the result of experience, of knowing where to go.” Bernard Zuel
'A jangling, sparkling slice of antipodean summer with their single ‘Adelaide’. Containing a genetic core that tips its hat at bands like The Go-Betweens and The Chills, with an added pure pop sixties-inflected guitar shimmer…This is bright shiny stuff tempered by a little dusting of melancholy and yearning.” Arun Kendall, Backseat Mafia.
