Opening Celebration & Artist Talks
Saturday, 31 October 2026
Berninneit Art Gallery, Cowes
---
Join visiting artists Nadine Christensen, Dr Deanne Gilson, Naoise Halloran-Mackay, Tessa Laird, and curator Rosemary Forde, in a discussion of this dynamic contemporary art exhibition exploring the ongoing resonance of birds in art and culture.
Lovebirds (love, birds) brings together Australian contemporary artists with items from the Phillip Island & District Historical Society and the Robert Smith Collection. Celebrating the unique and ever-present bird life of Millowl Phillip Island and the Bass Coast region, Lovebirds (love, birds) draws on the cultural significance and history of birds, and our ever-evolving interspecies interactions.
Particularly resonant at this time as we face the impact of H5 bird ’flu in the region, Lovebirds (love, birds), a special project by artist Fernando do Campo invites visitors to reflect on the animals we share our habitat with, by adding your own drawings and letters to birds within the exhibition.
