About
Independent media such as podcasts allow creators to express themselves freely - within the limits of the law. Understanding defamation law can help you speak truth to power and get away with it.
For example you might think that your local member is a moron, but expressing that opinion on your podcast could be defamatory. Instead it might be more advisable to outline which of his actions are moronic and then to let your audience fill in the blanks.
Join this workshop to learn where the boundaries lie, the consequences for crossing them, and even where you can push them a little.
Presenter
Dr Laurel Mackenzie is an oral historian and law graduate whose passion for connecting storytelling with social justice runs through her practice, from her work as a community radio announcer with 3CR to lecturing in sociology and policy at leading Australian universities.
