About

What might you hear beneath a baroque canopy? Birds exchanging phrases, a dance in a clearing, or a little theatrical magic drifting through the trees?

Join Brisbane Baroque Players for our final concert of the year as we follow a woodland path through music by Purcell, Handel, Bach and some less familiar musical companions. Birdsong, leafy shade and pastoral scenes weave through a programme that moves between playful conversation, gentle reflection and enchantment.

Along the way, enjoy Bach’s beloved Sheep May Safely Graze, Handel’s tender tribute to the shade of a tree, Ombra mai fu, and a woodland suite drawn from Purcell’s The Fairy Queen. William Williams’s Sonata in Imitation of Birds adds birdsong to the branches, alongside music by Uccellini, Linicke and Garnier.

Discover the distinctive sounds of period instruments, with the viol making a special appearance in our ensemble. Its warm, resonant voice brings a colour we rarely have the opportunity to share with our audiences.

Come and find a little shade with us in the beautiful surroundings of St Augustine’s Anglican Church, Hamilton.
