The powerful and moving Stabat Mater by 18th century Maltese composer Girolamo Abos paints a picture of the Roman Catholic Holy Week liturgy in what was a contemporary Neapolitan setting during Abos' time. The somber scoring for voices and strings with organ continuo is memorable for its melodic elegance, harmonic purity and inventive composition.
