Modi Deng - 'on distance'
Location
Tempo Rubato
About
Modi Deng is an award-winning pianist from New Zealand. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, she has performed throughout the UK and Europe in venues such as Wigmore Hall and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and as concerto soloist with several of New Zealand’s major orchestras.
She is back at Tempo to perform a programme about distance and vastness: the gulf between two lovers in Liszt’s Ballade No. 2; snow in ‘Chasse-Neige’ that gradually buries the landscape and people. Shimmering and playful, one hand shadows the other in Claire Cowan’s Shadow Hands.

Franz LISZT Ballade No. 2 in B minor
Claire COWAN Shadow Hands (2005)
Gillian WHITEHEAD Outlines Through Rising Mist (2009)
Franz LISZT Transcendental Etude No. 12 ‘Chasse-Neige’
Frédéric CHOPIN Sonata No. 3 in B minor
