About

Peter de Jager and Katia Mestrovic present a fiery program for piano and harp.

Ciclo Plateresco Op. 100 (1945) was written by Spanish composer, Joaquín Turina. The piece draws inspiration from the architectural Plateresque movement of late 15thC Spain. The style is described as richly ornamented and florid, like the work of a ‘platero,’ or silversmith.

The Sonata (1922) for Harp and Piano by Carlos Salzedo is pianistically virtuosic, and showcases a myriad of extended techniques on the harp. These techniques help build intensity, create interesting textures, and are visually impressive.

The Harp Concerto Op. 25 (1956) by Argentinian composer Alberto Ginastera, is heavily influenced by native folk dance rhythms, with the frequent use of two against three. It uses both instruments percussively.
