The class is run IN-PERSON with an experienced clinical midwife. It is a small group setting located in our Parent Education Department at King Edward Memorial Hospital.

Becoming a grandparent or supporting your family member or friend postpartum is a joyful and important role—especially in the early weeks after a baby is born. It Takes a Village is a practical and supportive class designed specifically for grandparents and carers to help them confidently support new parents in the postpartum period.

This session covers:

  • Up-to-date postpartum care and infant care information

  • How to provide emotional and practical support to new parents

  • Key child safety essentials

  • An outline of the challenges new parents face and how to best support them in this role

Whether you’re preparing to welcome your first grandchild or simply brushing up on the latest in baby care and safety, this class empowers you to be a calm, helpful, and informed part of the parenting journey.

This class is offered in small groups in-person, or an online alternative which can allow grandparents to join online from wherever they may be located - this is a great option for families interstate or even overseas. The class must be attended with the birthing woman.
