About
SA Light Opera brings you The Pirates of Penzance, Directed by Bronwyn Calvett, with Musical Director Helen Loveday, this musical romp introduces Frederic, a pirate’s apprentice, who falls madly in love with Mabel, a Major-General's daughter. Frederic is due to be released from his apprenticeship on his 21st birthday, but there’s a snag. (Come along to learn more of this flibberty gibberty!) Gilbert & Sullivan’s Pirates explores themes of duty, honour and the silliness of strict rules, while also making fun of the British class system and Victorian society - in fact society in general, even today!
It is a delightful mix of romance, comedy and satire, featuring memorable music, almost historical costumes and plenty of witty dialogue.
