Join us for an exciting (4 hour) Outdoor Painting Competition where artists create an original artwork outdoors, on location, within a set time. Plein air is the French term meaning “painting in the open air.” Rather than working from photographs, artists paint directly from the landscape, buildings, gardens or street scenes before them.
Whether you’re an experienced plein air artist or trying it for the first time, everyone is welcome.

Date: Saturday, 28 November 2026
Stamping: 7:30 - 8:30 am
Painting Time: 8:30 am – 12:30 pm
Judging & Prize Presentation: 2:00 pm at the Toowoomba Art Society.
We are delighted to welcome Garry Dolan as our guest judge. Garry is a highly respected artist and judge, and he will select the winning entries.
Prize money will be awarded across a range of categories (see competition rules for details).
All canvases and painting surfaces must be presented for stamping before painting begins.
Artists must complete one work on location (within 250meters of the Art Society) during the competition time.
Come along for a wonderful exciting day of creativity, challenge and camaraderie in one of Toowoomba’s beautiful outdoor settings.
