The unique Mental Health factors within the South Asian Diaspora and their Relevance in the Therapeutic Relationship'
The South Asian population in Australia is the largest migrant group who are currently falling through the cracks of Australian systems and services and not receiving appropriate mental health and social support. There are unique cultural contexts, factors and intersectionality to consider when engaging in a working alliance with this population. There are barriers to initial engagement and maintaining continued support as well as approaches that jeopardise effective practice. Cultural Symbiosis is about building a mutually beneficial psycho-socio- education bridge of understanding between cultures through curiosity, non-judgement and respectful relating.
