About

The Weight of Witness brings together the voices of Australian and New Zealand healthcare workers who have served in Gaza during the ongoing genocide, preserving frontline testimonies of courage, grief, humanity and resistance in the face of Israel’s devastation. This book bears witness to the horror and trauma that the people of Gaza have endured and to the deliberate destruction of the healthcare system – and pays tribute to the enduring spirt of the Palestinian people.

Dr Chris Holden is a Tasmanian doctor who works as a rural GP combined with providing medical aid in international crises. He has worked in Ukraine and has just returned from his second placement in Gaza, supporting people with life threating injuries, surrounded by destroyed infrastructure and a devastated environment. He has contributed a chapter to Weight of Witness.

In conversation with Dr Holden is Dr David Coady, a Senior Lecturer in Philosophy at UTAS. His wide-ranging research and writing has included such subjects as rumour, conspiracy theory, and fake news as well as the philosophy of law, and of climate change, cricket ethics, police ethics and the ethics of horror films. He is the author and editor of several books and is currently writing The Philosophy of Palestinian Liberation, to be published by Palgrave.

All ticket sales from this event will be donated to a Gaza medical organisation.
