About
Dr Catherine Kizana will take educators deeper into the ABC Framework for understanding children's behaviour.
When a child hits, refuses, screams, withdraws or simply won't do what we expect, it's easy to focus on the behaviour we can see. But behaviour is only the beginning of the story.
In this interactive two-hour session, Catherine will help educators move beyond asking "How do I stop this behaviour?" and instead become curious about "What is this behaviour telling me?"
Using the ABC Framework, we'll explore:
A — Attachment
How a child's need for safety, connection and belonging influences their behaviour, and the important role educators play in creating relational safety.
B — Beneath the Behaviour
How nervous system state, sensory needs, development, autonomy, environment, lagging skills and a child's capacity in that moment can all influence the behaviour we see.
C — Curiosity
How our interpretations and assumptions about behaviour shape the way we respond - and how asking "What else might be true?" can open up very different possibilities.
We'll bring the framework to life through real early-childhood examples and work through scenarios together, with plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion.
Educators will leave with a practical framework they can return to when behaviour feels challenging, confusing or confronting - not another script or behaviour-management technique, but a different way of seeing the child in front of them.
About Dr Catherine Kizana
Dr Catherine Kizana is a medical doctor, parenting coach and founder of ABC Parenting. Her work brings together attachment, nervous system science, child development and behaviour to help the adults around children understand what is happening beneath the behaviour they can see.
Her core philosophy is simple: Behaviour isn't just something to manage. It's information.
When we understand what a child's behaviour is communicating, we can respond to what they actually need.
