About
Ready to get into the saddle?
Our trial riding sessions are private, one-on-one riding lessons for beginner and intermediate riders who are ready to begin or continue developing their ridden skills.
BEFORE BOOKING
Complete beginners: If you are completely new to riding, you must have completed at least the first Foundation Class before booking a ridden session. Completing the second and third Foundation Classes is recommended and will give you a stronger foundation going into your first ridden lesson, but they are not required.
Riders with previous experience: If you already know the basics of riding or have had riding lessons before, you do not need to complete the Foundation Classes first. Your first session will be used as an assessment to see where you are currently at and what areas we can work on with you.
Rider weight limit: For the safety and wellbeing of our horses and riders, our maximum rider weight is 85 kg. This applies to all ridden sessions.
FIRST CLASS
Your first lesson is an introductory trial session. We’ll get to know you as a rider, look at your confidence and current ability, and get a feel for how you learn and communicate with the horse.
It’s also your chance to see how you feel with your lesson horse and instructor. Finding the right fit is important, and this first session gives you the opportunity to experience how we teach before deciding whether you’d like to continue.
- What We’ll Look At -
Your first lesson may include looking at:
• Your confidence around and on the horse
• Your balance and position
• Basic cues and communication
• Your current riding experience
• How you learn and respond to instruction
• Your overall comfort and feel in the saddle
There’s no pass or fail. The first lesson is simply about understanding where you’re at as a rider and how we can best help you move forward.
Continuing With Lessons
If you enjoy your trial session and decide you’d like to continue, ongoing lessons are booked in a minimum block of 4 sessions.
Due to demand, booking in blocks allows us to maintain consistency in your riding and gives you enough time to actually build your skills and confidence. It also allows us to manage our limited lesson spaces fairly and avoid holding lesson spots that may otherwise be offered to another rider.
Payment plans are available for 4-lesson blocks. Please get in touch if you would prefer to arrange a payment plan.
- Cancellations & Rescheduling -
If you need to cancel or reschedule your lesson, at least 24 hours’ notice is required.
Cancellations or rescheduling with less than 24 hours’ notice will result in that lesson being forfeited.
If you do not attend your scheduled lesson without letting us know, the lesson will also be forfeited.
There are no refunds for forfeited lessons.
- Late Arrivals -
Each lesson is 45 minutes.
Please arrive on time and allow yourself enough time to be ready for your lesson.
Arrivals of 15 minutes or more will result in the lesson being automatically forfeited. No refund or replacement lesson will be provided.
If We Need to Cancel
Sometimes a lesson may need to be cancelled due to weather, horse welfare, instructor availability, illness or other circumstances outside of our control.
If we need to cancel your lesson, we will let you know as soon as possible and arrange a suitable time to reschedule your lesson.
- Safety & Rider Progress -
The safety and wellbeing of our riders, horses and team always comes first.
Every rider progresses differently. Lessons are tailored to the individual rider and horse, and progression will always depend on your confidence, ability and readiness rather than a set timeline.
Your instructor may modify, pause or stop a lesson if they feel it is necessary for the safety or wellbeing of the rider or horse.
Riders must let their instructor know before riding about anything that may affect their ability to safely participate in the lesson.
- Respect & Conduct -
We ask that all riders treat our horses and animals, instructors, the Al Khayaala team and our space with respect.
We have the right to forfeit a lesson if a rider’s behaviour is considered disrespectful, unsafe or inappropriate towards our animals, instructors, team members or the space.
If a rider is asked to discontinue their lessons due to a breach of these expectations, any remaining lesson balance will be refunded, and they will no longer be able to book future lessons with Al Khayaala.
- Before Booking -
• You must have completed a minimum of the first Foundation Classes before commencing ridden lessons.
• Closed-toe shoes are required for your trial lesson.
• Riders continuing with lessons must provide their own approved riding helmet.

If your requested time is not available within the schedule, please get in contact so that we can find a time and day that is more suited to your needs.
