About
Next term marks an exciting time in your child’s Silkwood journey. Our Year 1 children are preparing to transition into Primary School, while our Year 2 students are getting ready for a very special milestone – their first ever school camp!
Both experiences bring plenty of excitement and anticipation as one chapter begins to close and the next opens. To help prepare our children for these upcoming milestones, we warmly invite Year 1 and Year 2 families to spend an evening under the stars at our first ever Open Air Cinema on Friday 9 October at 5:30pm.
We hope this might be the beginning of a special yearly tradition for our Year 1 and Year 2 families, with the evening intentionally designed to support each year level in slightly different ways.
For our Year 2 students, the cinema will take place in the very same space that will be transformed the following week for their space-themed camp – right here on the school grounds! Lit by festoon lights and dotted with bell tents, students will explore all things space, from stargazing and rocket making to plenty of other adventures in between.
Our children will already have experienced this part of the school after dark through events such as Festival of Light. The Open Air Cinema offers another opportunity to be onsite at night, this time with the nurturing support and reassurance of their family alongside them. When they return the following week for camp, the setting may be the same, but the next step is theirs – staying, exploring and experiencing their first school camp with growing independence.
For our Year 1 students, the evening offers relaxed time with their families in the Primary School grounds before this becomes their everyday space next year. It is another opportunity to build familiarity, connection and a sense of belonging in Primary – while also offering a little glimpse into the future, because this time next year, they will be the ones preparing for their very first school camp!
Most importantly, we want this to be a relaxed, family-friendly evening that builds excitement, confidence and independence for our children as they prepare for what comes next.
We’ll be screening Roald Dahl’s beloved The BFG, with complimentary popcorn, pizza and hot chocolates to enjoy while getting comfy on bean bags under the stars. Families are very welcome to bring along rugs, blankets and pillows, as well as any additional food or drinks you may prefer.
Siblings are also welcome to join us. As this is a family event, supervision of children and siblings remains with parents and carers throughout the evening. We simply ask families to keep the purpose of the evening in mind – creating a special experience centred around our Year 1 and Year 2 children and the exciting milestones ahead of them.
We look forward to welcoming you for an evening under the stars – a chance to slow down, connect and enjoy this moment together before the exciting changes ahead.
