More Than Words™: Hanen Program

More Than Words™ is an internationally recognised parent program that helps you learn practical, everyday strategies to support your child’s social communication. You’ll be guided by a Hanen certified Speech Pathologist in a warm, supportive group of families.

Who is this program for? This program is designed for parents of autistic children or children who are developing social communication differently. No diagnosis required.

Aligned with the NDIS? Families can use their NDIS funding to participate.

Event dates: Please note that the first session will be confirmed with you via email and is not necessarily the 12/10/2026 at 4:00pm (as per event page). Additional dates for subsequent workshops (within the program) will also be confirmed with you. 

Do both parents need to attend? No — but both are welcome. Many families find it helpful when multiple caregivers attend so everyone learns the same strategies.

What is the time commitment? Across 12 weeks, you’ll participate in: small‑group learning sessions, individual coaching sessions and short home practice activities (most families spend an additional 15–20 minutes per week practising strategies at home).

What happens in the individual coaching sessions? You’ll work one‑on‑one with a Hanen Certified Speech Pathologist who tailors strategies to your child’s communication, sensory preferences, and interests. These sessions include video feedback to help you see what’s working.

Do I need to record videos at home? Yes — short clips of everyday interactions (play, routines, mealtimes). These help your therapist provide personalised feedback. You only share videos with your therapist, and they are stored securely.

Will the program be tailored to my child? Yes. Although group learning is a core component, your individual coaching sessions and video feedback are fully personalised.

When will I receive the final session dates? Your first session date will be confirmed via email. Once the group is finalised, you’ll receive the full schedule for all 12 weeks.

Can neurodivergent parents participate? Absolutely. The program is designed to be supportive, flexible, and accessible. Materials are available in multiple formats, and your therapist will adapt communication styles as needed.

Do I need any special materials? Just: A phone or device for recording short videos and a quiet space for sessions.

What if I miss a session? We understand life happens. If you miss a group session, your therapist will help you catch up on key concepts. Individual sessions can usually be rescheduled within the program timeframe.
