About

Top Ten Maths Workshops are practical, hands-on and developmentally-sequenced, highlighting the pedagogy behind the units, while also showing teachers examples that can be used in the classroom the next day. Professional learning is delivered in a classroom-based manner. Teachers transform into the students for the day and actively participate in each challenging task, while being taken on a journey along a developmental sequence. Top Ten Maths regularly work with very small campuses with all students in one classroom (F-6), or two or three classrooms where composites are evolving each year depending on numbers in each part of the school. Resource packs are well set-up to cater for this and are particularly popular with small schools, as many of the lessons were developed in multi-age settings to work with very wide ranges in one room, with the enabling and extending prompts, as well as the diagnostic assessments that pinpoint gaps and points-of-need across multiple levels.

This Intensive Workshop will delve into the entire approach for teams and focus on the place value sequence, progressing through each critical skill from P-6. This involves modelling and teams participating in their highest impact hands-on lessons for that concept. Strategies will be explained and demonstrated for modelling with materials, questioning and feedback tips, common misconceptions, as well as brainstorming enabling and extending prompts and strategies for ongoing extension and support within each session. The navigation, assessment options and links to the units are consistently highlighted throughout the day as well, ensuring teams leave with a greater understanding of options of how to use the units to support their weekly planning.

The training is very interactive and engaging for teachers, rather than a lecture-style presentation. Teachers ask lots of questions and are shown practical tips to gain the most from the units and assessments to assist with the daily elements of hands-on maths planning based on students’ points-of-need.

Note: Event cost of $380 + GST will be invoiced to participants directly from Top Ten Maths prior to the event. $50 TryBooking charge to covers venue and catering costs.
