About
Baby's almost here — now what? This half day class is designed specifically for LGBTQ+ parents navigating the early weeks of parenthood, covering the practical skills and support you'll actually need, without the assumptions mainstream classes often make.
Our class covers infant feeding in all its forms, practical newborn care, skin to skin, and your own wellbeing as a new parent.
What we'll cover:
• Infant feeding — including chest feeding for trans and gender diverse parents, and induced lactation for non birth parents
• Practical newborn care — safe sleep, bathing, cord care, nappy changes, swaddling, and settling
• Skin to skin — for birth parents, non-birth parents, and surrogacy families
• Perinatal mental health and wellbeing
• Peer support, community connection, and inclusive local referrals
Our class goes beyond a standard antenatal class. You'll learn the same evidence based content covered in mainstream classes, but through a queer lens that reflects your family — inclusive language, the realities of navigating the healthcare system as an LGBTQ+ parent, and space to connect with other Rainbow Families.
What we'll cover:
• Pregnancy, hormones, and signs of labour
• Pain relief, positions, and decision-making during birth
• Caesarean, induction, and assisted birth
• Postnatal recovery and the first hours with your baby
• Peer support, mental health, and finding affirming care
