About

OPPIEPLAAS FAMILY CAMP 2026

2–5 October 2026 | King’s Birthday Long Weekend
Historic Jondaryan Woolshed, Queensland

Welcome to the inaugural OppiePlaas Family Camp — a relaxed four-day country camping weekend bringing together family, friendship, faith, South African heritage and Australian country hospitality.

OppiePlaas grew from a simple idea: create a weekend where families can get away from everyday life, put down the screens, spend proper time together, meet new people and make memories around the fire.

This is not a tightly scheduled festival where you need to rush from one activity to the next. There will be plenty happening, but you can do as much or as little as you like.

Camp. Kuier. Explore. Eat. Dance. Relax. Belong.

WHAT’S HAPPENING?

The weekend programme is planned to include:

🎶 Live music and entertainment
💃 Saturday Night Sokkie with Split Image LIVE
🐑 Jondaryan Woolshed heritage experiences and demonstrations
🐴 Horses, sheep, working dogs and traditional country activities
🍞 Complimentary fresh damper at the Damper Hut
🎡 Sunday Family Fun Theme Park
🎣 Fishing along Oakey Creek
🔥 Campfires and communal kuier areas
🍷 Wine, beer and spirits tastings
🇿🇦 South African food, drinks, biltong, snacks and treats
🎤 Open mic / karaoke and entertainment
📺 Big-screen music and campfire entertainment
✝️ Sunday morning family church service
📸 Professional family photography opportunities
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Activities and experiences for the whole family

The programme remains subject to change due to weather, operational requirements, availability and other circumstances. The Facebook Event page and official OppiePlaas WhatsApp group will carry the latest information.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

This is a genuine country camping weekend, so arrive reasonably self-sufficient.

Depending on your accommodation type, consider bringing:

⛺ Tent, caravan or camping equipment
🛏️ Bedding and warm clothing
🪑 Camping chairs and outdoor table
🔦 Torches/headlamps
🦟 Insect repellent
☀️ Sunscreen and hats
🧴 Toiletries and toilet paper
🥤 Drinking water if preferred
🍳 Cooking/braai equipment where permitted
💊 Personal medication
🎣 Fishing equipment if you would like to fish
🚲 Bicycles if desired — helmets required

You don’t need to bring absolutely everything. Firewood, ice, fire starters and other selected camping supplies will be available for purchase, and a limited number of raised fire pits will be available for hire.

FOOD & DRINKS

No general meal package is included in camping admission, so campers may bring their own food and appropriate cooking equipment.

However, you certainly won’t need to cook every meal.

OppiePlaas will have:

🇿🇦 South African food available for purchase
🥩 Biltong, droëwors and snacks
🍫 South African chocolates, sweets and treats
🥤 Cold drinks and water
🍺 Licensed Kwagga Bars
🍷 Wine, beer and spirits tastings
🍞 Complimentary damper experience

BYO alcohol is not permitted within designated licensed areas, including the Saturday Night Sokkie. RSA and applicable Queensland liquor-licensing requirements apply.

SATURDAY NIGHT SOKKIE

Saturday night is one of the highlights of the weekend, with Split Image performing LIVE for our OppiePlaas Sokkie.

If you have booked an OppiePlaas camping package, your Saturday Night Sokkie admission is already included.

Do not purchase a separate Sokkie ticket if you are already camping.

Saturday Day Visitor admission also includes the Sokkie.

Separate Sokkie-only tickets are available for people who simply want to join us for Saturday evening without camping or attending during the day.

NOT CAMPING? YOU CAN STILL JOIN US

You do not have to camp for the entire weekend to experience OppiePlaas.

Saturday Day Visitor and Sunday Day Visitor options are available, allowing families and friends to participate in the applicable programme for that day.

You can also purchase a Sokkie-only ticket if you simply want to join Saturday night’s party.

Please select the appropriate ticket category during booking.

SUNDAY FAMILY FUN

Sunday afternoon will include our OppiePlaas Family Fun Theme Park, with family attractions and activities.

Theme Park access is included for OppiePlaas campers and in the applicable Sunday Day Visitor admission.

Individual attractions remain subject to age, height, weight, capacity and safety requirements and operator directions.

CHILDREN & FAMILIES

OppiePlaas is designed as a family-friendly event.

Parents and guardians remain responsible for supervising their children throughout the weekend, particularly around:

• Oakey Creek and other water
• Roads and moving vehicles
• Horses and farm animals
• Fires
• Heritage machinery and demonstrations
• Amusement activities

Please help us create an environment where children can explore and have fun safely.

FISHING

Bring your fishing rods!

Oakey Creek runs alongside the camping grounds and fishing can be a wonderful family activity.

Applicable Queensland fishing rules, species requirements and possession/size limits must be observed, and children must be supervised around the creek.

And we’ve added a little OppiePlaas incentive:

Catch a fish, take a photo of yourself with it and show us the photo around the Camp Kitchen area — and we’ll give you a free packet of biltong! 🎣🇿🇦

FIRES

Campfires are part of the OppiePlaas experience, but they are not permitted everywhere.

Fires are permitted only in designated areas and must be contained in approved raised fire pits or drums.

There are no open fires in the Caravan Park or Museum/Heritage Precinct.

Any Total Fire Ban, official direction or changed fire conditions override normal arrangements.

Please never place bottles, cans, plastics or general rubbish into fires.

PETS

Our strong recommendation is that pets remain at home.

OppiePlaas takes place in a working rural and heritage environment involving horses, sheep, working dogs, other animals, whip-cracking demonstrations and neighbouring livestock properties.

In very limited circumstances, Kwagga Events may consider an exception by prior written approval.

Please do not arrive with a pet unless written approval has been obtained beforehand.

Approved pets remain subject to strict conditions, including remaining on leash and under responsible adult control.

ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE

Arrival: Friday, 2 October 2026 from approximately 11:00am
Departure: Monday, 5 October 2026 by 11:00am

On arrival, do not enter through the first Jondaryan Woolshed Reception gate.

Continue to the designated OppiePlaas entrance and follow the Kwagga/OppiePlaas flags and event signage to our Information / Check-In area.

Further arrival instructions will be provided before the event.

JOIN THE OFFICIAL OPPIEPLAAS WHATSAPP GROUP

We strongly recommend that at least one person from every booking joins the official OppiePlaas WhatsApp group before arriving.

This will be one of our primary communication channels during the weekend for:

📢 Important announcements
🗓️ Programme changes
⛈️ Weather information
⚠️ Safety notices
📍 Location updates
💡 Useful camp information

Only the organisers will post, so this will not become another noisy WhatsApp chat group.

The group exists specifically for OppiePlaas 2026 and will be closed after the event.

Joining details will be provided to campers and are also available through our event information.

A FINAL WORD

This is the first-ever OppiePlaas Family Camp.

We’re starting something we hope will grow into an annual tradition where families return year after year, children grow up together, friendships develop and our South African heritage can be celebrated alongside the Australian country community we now call home.

Come with realistic expectations, a camping chair and a willingness to participate.

Meet your neighbours.

Sit around the fire.

Have a dance.

Try something new.

Let the kids get dirty.

Stay up a little too late.

And make some memories.

More than a camp… it’s a tradition in the making. ❤️
