About

🌹 Rumi’s Urs 2026: An Evening of Poetry, Meditation & Sacred Music

Celebrating Love, Unity and Union with the Divine

You are warmly invited to join us at Hovea Ashram for a special evening commemorating the Urs of Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi, the renowned 13th-century Sufi mystic and poet.

Rumi passed away on 17 December 1273 in Konya, Türkiye. In the Sufi tradition, the commemoration of a saint’s passing is known as Urs, an Arabic word meaning “wedding”. It symbolises the soul’s spiritual union with God, the Beloved. Rumi understood death as a spiritual homecoming, a joyful reunion with the Divine.

We will gather to celebrate Rumi’s life, poetry and spiritual wisdom in an atmosphere of love, stillness and shared presence. His teachings invite us to look beyond our differences and explore the deeper connections that unite us.

🪷 The Evening’s Programme

The evening will include:

Poetry and the Beloved: Readings from Rumi’s poetry exploring love, longing and union with the Divine.

Reflection and Dialogue: Shared reflections on Rumi’s spiritual teachings and their relevance to our everyday lives.

Meditation and Sacred Music: Moments of stillness, meditation and sacred music inspired by Sufi mystical traditions.

Vegetarian Dinner: An opportunity to share food, conversation and friendship in a welcoming community.

Everyone is welcome, regardless of spiritual or religious background. No prior knowledge of Rumi or Sufism is required.
