# Introducing the Sense-Making Lens

### A different perspective on participation, avoidance and overwhelm

Are you already doing so much for your PDA or twice-exceptional (2E) child, yet still find yourself wondering:

**'Is this going to be my life forever?'**

Perhaps you've already lowered demands, introduced declarative language, and created as much space for autonomy and equality as possible.

And yet, participation can still feel incredibly difficult.

Why can something work one day and not the next?

Why does your child sometimes struggle with things they genuinely want to do?

And why, despite everything you're already doing, do you still feel like something is missing?

After years of working with PDA and 2E families, and experiencing life as a PDA and 2E family ourselves, I've found myself exploring these very questions.

This has led me to develop the **Sense-Making Lens** โ€” a different perspective on understanding avoidance, participation and overwhelm.

Because what if, to understand avoidance, we first need to understand participation?

And what if understanding participation requires us to look beyond what we see on the outside, and explore what is happening in the process of making sense of ourselves, other people and the world around us?

Through developing the Sense-Making Process, I've identified five key sense-making conditions where PDAers and 2E individuals may be more likely to get stuck.

**Could these be some of the missing pieces we've been looking for?**

With the Sense-Making Lens, I hope to explore how these conditions may help us understand why participation can remain difficult, even when we are already doing so much to support our children.

Rather than offering another strategy to add to your already full toolbox, this lens invites us to look at participation differently.

Because perhaps understanding *why* participation becomes difficult can open up a whole new way of understanding what our children need.

## Join me for the official launch!

I'm excited to introduce the Sense-Making Lens and share how this perspective may help us better understand the experiences of PDA and 2E individuals and their families.

Join me for a free, informative webinar where we'll explore the lens, discover the five key sense-making conditions, and have an opportunity to ask questions.

If you've ever wondered why something that *should* work doesn't, or why your child can do something one day but not the next, this launch may offer a different way of understanding what is happening.

๐Ÿงก I look forward to sharing this with you!
