About
If you're a fiend for a YouTube video with your dinner, or are simply looking for a different way to get out of the house and learn something new to aid your cool Aunt/Uncle lore, this is made for you.
Inspired by the original Lectures on Tap over in America, this activation brings industry experts into bars to give talks about their research. Think two 25-minute talks with a break in between, giving you plenty of time to head to the bar for another pint or a spot of dinner.
Held in the iconic Gov, you're sure to enjoy some good vibes before and after the talks. This particular activation is ideal for introverts, curious minds, or people just looking for something different on a Wednesday night. Below, you'll find details about the talks being discussed and the people giving them.
“Must have been a ghost: exploring the relationship between psychology, the paranormal and conspiracy theories.” By Dr Toby Prike
Despite being unsupported by scientific or other robust evidence, belief in conspiracy theories and the paranormal is widespread. In this talk, Dr Toby Prike from Adelaide University will present research on the relationship between non-evidence-based beliefs (e.g., conspiracy and paranormal beliefs) and cognitive bias, probabilistic reasoning, and belief updating
“The lies we buy: how brands gaslight us into doing more harm when we try to do good” by Dr Kate Louise Sansome
In the age of overconsumption, microplastics and social media, we are constantly being fed ways to maintain a moral high ground and do better for future generations. In this talk, Dr Kate Sansome will explore the ways that brands deceive consumers by playing on our good faith. With a focus on secondhand and sustainability, Dr Sansome will deep dive into the barriers we experience and how to validate claims made by brands.
Accessibility: the Gov is a wheelchair accessible venue
