About

PLEASE NOTE WALK START TIME IS 10.30am.
The Geelong Branch of NTV invites you to join us for a walking tour through the historic Federal Woollen Mills precinct in Mackey Street, North Geelong. Member, Jo Cross, will share her findings and research, conducted with the support of the team at Hamilton Group.

Long before its industrial transformation, this land was actively managed by Wadawurrung people. Following colonisation and the dispossession of Wadawurrung people from their Country by settlers, the area was converted to pastoral farmland as Geelong grew into a strategic global wool port.

After closing its doors in 2001 due to international competition, the 50,000-square-metre site was saved from demolition in 2013 by the Hamilton Group. Their vision sparked a rapid restoration that beautifully preserved its red-brick heritage, helping Geelong secure its proud title as Australia's first and only UNESCO City of Design.

As we walk these paths, you will see how a century of national defence, industrial peaks, and modern architectural renaissance have merged to create a world-class tech and lifestyle hub. Opportunity to stay on for coffee afterwards (not included in the admission charge)
