About
Join us at Readings' A Day in Carlton, 24 hours celebrating books, culture and community
La Mama Salon is a series of intimate conversations at La Mama Theatre. Seating only 30 people, it’s a space designed for confessions and creations.
Listen in as award-winning author John Morrissey discusses speculative fiction and his latest novel, 'Bird Deity', with Readings’ own Monte Weir.
David is a scout. For ten years he has plundered the ruins of an alien civilisation about which he knows nothing. Now his contract is ending, and he's ready to go home, a wealthy, successful man. Then he’s offered one more expedition, one more trip to the rainswept wasteland of the plateau – and he can go home at last, rich beyond his dreams.
But he comes to realise that he may yet lose everything, as he is drawn inexorably towards an encounter with the terrifying soul of this world.
At once disconcerting and eerily familiar, 'Bird Deity' is a cosmic horror story about power, theft, love, loss, and destiny.
Tickets:
Full priced $20
Under 30s/concession $15
The Readings pop-up bookshop will be open at this event.
