As a body of work, the long awaited , almost lost album 'Hard Rhyme' stands in strong opposition to the fracturing of social digitisation and presents itself as the organic whole that when trusted with space and time, deepens in value and ripens in wisdom. Matthew's guiding voice and guitar are afforded the reflective expanse of a drum-less record, adorned with the impressionistic landscape of pedal steel and the steady rumination of upright bass. Rough River is the musical project of alternative folk singer-songwriter Kate Skinner. Her latest work captures that strange liminal feeling of early motherhood, love and loss and a yearning for the natural world. This lends itself to a looseness and grit that underpins her live performances.
