About

The NSW branch of the Australian Association for Infant Mental Health (AAIMH) hosts a monthly online seminar series.

Join us at our November 2026 seminar to hear from Nadene Alhadeff on the topic, '
Building Connection in the first year: The Impact and Evolution of Mum for Mum.'

Overview:
“Mum for Mum provides a unique service that, in my 30 years in the field, I have seen many organisations strive for, but few able to achieve. This is weekly emotional support and mentoring from the same highly trained volunteer for an entire year. Given the vagaries of the health-care system, I know this is extremely hard to achieve.” (Professor Marie-Paule Austin, Past Director of Perinatal Psychiatry, Royal Hospital for Women and Former Director of St John of God Mother-Baby Unit). I’d like to share the vision and model behind our program. Our dream is to see this model grow beyond our current capacity and, ultimately, beyond our borders, so that more mothers can experience the mindful, careful compassionate support that Mum for Mum provides as we recreate the village.

About Nadene: As a mother who lived on three continents while caring for babies without family or social support, I understand firsthand how isolating motherhood can be without a village. This experience drives my commitment to ensuring vulnerable mothers receive the support I so desperately needed. My background in psychology, corporate training, running a private preschool as an immigrant, and volunteering with Lifeline prepared me to take on Mum for Mum in 2011. Since then, I have grown the grassroots program from 14 volunteers to four hubs, with more than 220 volunteers supporting around 350 mothers each year.

Cost: Free for AAIMH members; $15 for non-AAIMH members. Please note, the session will not be recorded.
