Dancehall with Maya is a weekly community dance class taught by instructor Maya Sheridan that honours Jamaican dancehall culture, social dances, and foundational grooves. This class is open to all levels, non-dancers and dancers alike and typically provides an introduction to the fundamentals of this vibrant, sexy and empowering Jamaican dance style, focusing on basic steps, techniques, and cultural context. Classes generally start with a relaxing warm-up to Reggae music, followed by learning signature Dancehall moves and choreography.
Maya encourages and emphasises creating a fun and positive environment where everyone can express their unique personalities through dance. These classes aim to amplify authentic dancehall culture while empowering individuals to 'free up themselves' building confidence, coordination & community.
WHAT TO WEAR
Footwear
Runners or sneakers.
Clothing
Non-restrictive activewear/streetwear such as track pants, tights, long shorts, t-shirt or singlet top.
