Queer Book Club: The Leveret by Anna Goldreich

In October, Queer book club will be reading The Leveret, a heartbreakingly gorgeous and lyrically haunting debut novel about grief in the aftermath of baby loss and the power of queer love – perfect for fans of Julia Armfield, Sophie Mackintosh and Daisy Johnson.

After the loss of their baby girl, Clare and Phoebe move to the countryside in the hope of healing their fractured relationship, but while Phoebe retreats into work on her family farm, Clare finds solace in an orphaned leveret she names Isla. As Isla grows wild and unruly, Clare’s grip on reality begins to unravel, forcing Phoebe to question whether this strange surrogate can mend their grief or drive them further apart. Anna Goldreich’s debut is a hauntingly lyrical, bruisingly tender story of queer love, grief and the fantasies we create to survive.
