Working with Complex Personality Traits – Online
About
Respond effectively to complex personality traits while maintaining engagement and boundaries
When intense emotions, unstable relationships, crises or challenging interactions complicate care, it can be difficult to know how to respond without operating beyond your scope of practice.
This half day workshop builds your confidence to understand and formulate complex personality traits, strengthen engagement and respond in ways that support effective alcohol and other drug treatment.
Through case studies, roleplay, formulation exercises, reflective activities and practical strategies for validation, boundaries, triggers and therapeutic ruptures, you will practise responses you can use in everyday client work.
By the end of this workshop, you’ll be able to
- Recognise complex personality traits and consider how they can affect cognition, emotions, relationships and treatment engagement
- Assess whether challenging presentations may relate to personality traits, alcohol and other drug use, mental health issues or current stressors
- Develop formulations that account for personality traits and treatment interfering behaviours
- Apply engagement strategies including validation, curiosity, clear boundaries and collaborative goal setting
- Respond effectively to therapeutic ruptures, intense emotions, crises and challenging interactions
- Develop strategies to manage your own reactions and maintain effective self care
“Engaging, went at a good pace, very informative, great advice to guide future practice.”
