About
6pm for 6.30pm Friday 4th December
Join us to celebrate the launch of Sara Ahmed’s most recent book, No is Not a Lonely Utterance: The Art and Activism of Complaining in paperback.
Sara Ahmed has been listening to stories of complaint ever since she supported students who made a collective complaint about sexual harassment at her university in 2013. She gave one of her first lectures about the labour of complaint at University of Wollongong in 2018, chaired by Fiona Probyn-Rapsey, with Quah Ee Ling responding.
Sara, Fiona and Ee Ling re-unite for a conversation about complaining, again; how we need to keep making the same complaints when the same things keep happening. They will explore the need for repetition not only as exhausting but the site of creativity and collectivity.
Sara Ahmed is an independent queer feminist scholar of colour. Her work is concerned with how power is experienced and challenged in everyday life and institutional cultures. Her most recent books are No is Not a Lonely Utterance and The Feminist Killjoy Handbook. She blogs at feministkilljoys.com and has a newsletter https://feministkilljoys.substack.com/.
Quah Ee Ling is a fire dragon feminist and Singaporean of Chinese Hokkien and Indonesian Peranakan heritage. Ee Ling is an Associate Professor in Culture & Society at Western Sydney University.
