About
The Murrumbidgee Child Protection Alliance (MCPA) and Murrumbidgee Local Health District’s Priority Population Programs (PPP) invites you to a full-day workshop with Professor Simon Hackett, internationally recognised expert in child sexual abuse and harmful sexual behaviour. MCPA is a multi-agency alliance bringing together Health, Education, DCJ, NGOs and community partners to strengthen collaboration, build workforce capability, share resources, and promote the prevention of child maltreatment across the Murrumbidgee region. Professor Hackett's research and practice have shaped policy, assessment, and intervention frameworks internationally, supporting improved outcomes for children, young people, and families.
This workshop will provide the opportunity to explore and develop shared understanding and guiding approaches and principles for working with children and young people displaying problematic and harmful sexualised behaviours. Practitioners are encouraged to focus on safeguarding collaboratively and explore best practice responses throughout the day. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in case study discussions, hear from a multidisciplinary panel, and contribute to the development of guiding principles and approaches for local practice.
Professor Simon Hackett is an internationally recognised leader in the fields of child protection, child sexual abuse, and harmful sexual behaviour. An Emeritus Professor in the Department of Sociology at Durham University in the UK, his research and practice have focused on safeguarding children, supporting families, and improving responses to sexual harm for more than 30 years. The Hackett continuum of sexual behaviour is widely used in clinical practice. In Australia, Simon has contributed to the development of the National Clinical and Therapeutic Framework for working with children and young people who have displayed harmful or problematic sexual behaviour.
Alongside Professor Simon Hackett we will have a panel of other specialists in this area attending our workshop and sharing their expertise:
• Professor Dale Tolliday – Senior Clinical Advisor of Child and Young Person Sexual Safety (CYPSS) Program
• Jill Morris – Clinical Advisor of New Street
• Jane Key – Clinical Advisor of Safe Wayz
• Lochie Bygrave – Aboriginal Clinical Advisor of Safe Wayz
We are excited to offer this opportunity for practitioners from across the region to this valuable learning opportunity.
