Ramona Book Club: Luna, Phoenix, Queen by Julie Orringer

About
In November, our Lit Fic book club will be reading Luna, Phoenix, Queen, which has been described by Katie Kitamura as 'a miracle of a book'. In it, Dava Pennington, a professor secretly in love with a colleague, pours herself into a novel about two women running a domestic violence shelter, until she is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s. After she moves into memory care, her husband Barr discovers her manuscript, and the affair within it, and rewrites it as his own. It goes on to win widespread acclaim. But guilt, jealousy and a trail of unlikely witnesses (including one of the best dog characters in literature) threaten to expose his betrayal.
Told through a chorus of voices and spanning four decades, Luna, Phoenix, Queen is a story of artistic theft, marital betrayal and the devastating loss of memory. It explores the power of storytelling to make sense of our world, the fragility of identity and the injustices that can flourish beneath familiar surfaces. Ultimately, it is a fierce and unexpected testament to love in its many forms - it'll hook you in from the first page. Fans of Julia May Jonas and Meg Wolitzer.
