About
Jennifer will guide participants through the essential elements of creating successful paintings, with an emphasis on composition, light, tonal relationships, edges and the creative use of colour in underpainting.
Day 1 – Capturing the Landscape
Explore what makes a compelling landscape painting, from choosing the right subject to creating a strong and balanced composition. Jennifer will discuss common compositional mistakes and demonstrate how to simplify a scene, establish a focal point and use light and shadow to create depth, mood and atmosphere.
Discover the importance of tonal relationships, the effective use of hard and soft edges, and how colour in your underpainting can bring harmony, vibrancy and interest to your finished artwork.
Day 2 – The Beauty of Florals
Turn your attention to the wonderful colours, shapes and textures of flowers. Learn how to arrange and light a floral still life to create an engaging composition, with beautiful contrasts, interesting shadows and a sense of depth.
Explore how to capture the delicate forms of petals, the interplay of light and shadow, and the subtle variations in colour and tone that bring flowers to life. Jennifer will share techniques for using edges, tonal values and underpainting to create floral artworks full of freshness, atmosphere and expression.
Across both days, you'll develop a greater understanding of how composition, light, colour and tonal relationships work together to create paintings with impact.
This workshop offers a wonderful opportunity to build your pastel skills, strengthen your artistic eye and enjoy two days of creative exploration under Jennifer's guidance.
