About

Join native bee expert Ian Driver at Noosa Botanic Gardens during Australian Pollinator Week on 14th November for a workshop exploring Australia’s remarkable native bees and how you can create a welcoming home for them in your garden.

Bee populations face increasing pressure from habitat loss, pesticide exposure and climate change. The Varroa mite is an additional threat to European honey bees causing entire colonies to collapse if infestations are not adequately managed.

But look closely and you may discover some of our Australian native bees, often solitary, busily visiting and pollinating flowers in your garden.

Australia is home to around 2,000 species of native bees, which play a vital role in pollinating plants and maintaining healthy landscapes. Unlike European honey bees, native Australian bees are not directly threatened by Varroa mite.

Australian Pollinator Week is held from 07 to 15 November. It highlights the important role pollinators play in Australia's food security, biodiversity and ecosystem health and helps people take meaningful actions to support Australia’s pollinators.

Celebrate Australian Pollinator week in this workshop by learning about our local native bees, what you can do to attract them into your garden, and how you can make a bee hotel to give them the nesting spaces they desperately need.

Participants will also get to taste native bee honey.

This workshop is facilitated by Ian Driver, a Sunshine Coast based Australian Native Bee Keeper and educator, and owner/operator of A Green Soul Native Bees.

Workshop places are limited so don't miss out.
