Ode to Branch
By Rosie Lloyd-Giblett

'Ode to a Branch' celebrates the diversity and resilience of the tree species that shape the landscapes of the Western Downs. Through this new body of work, artist Rosie Lloyd-Giblett observes these trees as enduring witnesses to time, standing steadfast through drought, fire and flood. More than elements of the landscape, they are living archives, carrying stories of deep time within their trunks.

Raised on a farm near Chinchilla, Lloyd-Giblett has long held a connection to the region’s natural environment. In May and August 2026, she undertook periods of observation, sketching and painting at Myall Park Botanical Gardens near Glenmorgan. Drawing on both these experiences and memories of her childhood, she has created a series of works that reflect on place, belonging and our relationship with the natural world.

A special feature of the exhibition is the inclusion of artworks created by students from Glenmorgan, Hannaford, Meandarra and The Gums State Schools. Developed alongside Lloyd-Giblett during workshops held in August, these works respond to the unique flora of Myall Park Botanical Gardens and reflect the students’ own observations and connections to the landscape.

For Lloyd-Giblett, working with communities as both an artist and educator is an act of reciprocity. Through shared creative experiences, she encourages a deeper understanding of the natural world, believing that the more intimately we know the environments around us, the more likely we are to value, protect and care for them.
