banner
Doncaster Secondary College is proud to present the 2020 Musical Production: Footloose.
The show will run at the DSC Performance Centre from 12th - 14th August 2020.
Auditions are only open to students from Doncaster Secondary College who are currently in Years 7-11.
2020's Year 7 classes will have the opportunity to audition for an ensemble part at the start of next year.

Rehearsals for the show will take place from 3.30 - 5.30 on Thursday afternoons starting Term 1 next year. All cast members (Lead Role and Ensemble) will need to be available during this time, although due to rehearsal scheduling some students may not be required at certain points throughout the year. All students with a Lead Role will be required to attend additional rehearsals throughout the year to block their scenes. This will take place during lunchtimes at first, and may require students to attend an extra after school rehearsal, in addition, to the Thursday afternoon rehearsals if required.

There will also be 4 Sunday rehearsals which will take place from 9:00am – 3:30pm on 19th July, 26th July, 2nd August and 9th August 2020.

A technical rehearsal will take place during the school day on the 11th August. The final dress rehearsal for the performance will take place after school hours on this day (TBC).

The show will run at the DSC Performance Centre on the 12th (2 shows - a Primary School Matinee Performance will take place during school hours followed by an evening performance), 13th and 14th of August 2020. The evening performances will begin at 7:30pm (finish time to be confirmed).

ALL REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES ARE COMPULSORY. If you can’t attend these, you can’t be in the show. Absences from rehearsals will jeopardise your position in this performance. Students will not be able to participate in this production if this becomes a problem. Staff must be given notice of any known absence at least 2 weeks in advance. Decisions regarding the inclusion of students in the production (in the case of absence) will be left to the discretion of the staff involved. Please carefully read over the above dates and mention any potential absences you are aware of already (family holidays, dance concerts etc.) where required on the following form.

Auditions will take place in ZMP1 at Doncaster Secondary College. Sign up for an audition session by clicking on the 'BOOK NOW' icon on this screen, and fill in all contact and auditionee information. There will be 6 auditionees allocated to each 20 minute slot (approximatley 3 minutes for each student). If all audition spots are filled, (or you are unavailable during the other session times) please add your name to the waiting list session and you will be contacted by a member of the production team.

Please DO NOT sign up for multiple slots. If you sign up and change your mind/can't attend please see Mr Johnson so that he can free up your slot and allow someone else to audition at that time.

Please be prompt to your start time, and wait outside to be called. There may be opportunity for you to practice in one of the other Music Rooms while you wait.

Auditions are scheduled for:
Tuesday 26th November, Lunchtime and 3.20 - 4.40pm
Tuesday 3rd December, Lunchtime and 3.20 – 4.40pm

AUDITION SONG

Auditionees must perform one of the set songs for their audition. Male auditionees have the choice of singing ‘I Can’t Stand Still’ or ‘Heaven Help Me’. Female auditionees have the choice of signing ‘Holding Out for a Hero’ or ‘Somebody’s Eyes’. You will do this on your own in front of the audition panel. You may have the chance to warm up with the other students in your slot before your individual audition.
Please choose one song only. Choose the song you feel suits your vocal range best.
A character breakdown document, sheet music and recordings for the auditions can be accessed here. Please note, the recordings of the audition pieces have been edited to only contain the part you are required to learn. This has been done to avoid any confusion.
If you cannot read sheet music, just pay attention to the lyrics and sing along to the recordings to prepare. When you audition you will either sing over the recording (at a low volume) or without music. This will be your choice. We encourage you to sing without the music.
You might wish to listen to the rest of the 'Footloose' Soundtrack on Youtube to familiarise yourself with the songs. You may also wish to watch a recorded version of the full show to get an understanding of the story and characters. You are welcome to memorise the audition song(s), but it is not a requirement. We DO encourage you to showcase your acting and characterisation skills during your piece however, and this could prove difficult if you are relying on a copy of the lyrics - keep in mind you are trying to stand out from everyone else, don't just stand there and sing, move around, bring the character you are trying to portray to life, show us some energy!

DANCERS

If you are interested in a specialist dance role in the show, please specify this in the appropriate section when filling out your audition information during the booking process. These roles will be organised in 2020 and will be cast from within the ensemble. Please keep in mind these roles will require extra rehearsals outside of the Thursday night rehearsal time.

CALLBACKS

Auditionees who present well during the auditions may receive a Callback for a Lead Role in the show.

Please make sure the email address you put down on the following form is one that you check regularly - this is most likely how we will notify you if you receive a Callback.

During the Callbacks auditionees will be required to perform sections of the script for various characters on their own, and/or in small groups. Certain auditionees may also be asked to sing a section of an audition piece again.

Not all roles will necessarily be cast in in 2019. Some small speaking parts may be cast from within the ensemble during 2020.
The Callback Date is:
To be determined (this may need to occur in Week 10 after Headstart).

ORCHESTRA

Applications and Auditions for the Production Orchestra will be organised after the casting process is finalised. This may not take place until 2020.

PLEASE NOTE: IN COMPLETING THIS FORM AND SIGNING UP FOR AN AUDITION, THE PRODUCTION TEAM ASSUMES THAT PARENTAL CONSENT HAS BEEN GIVEN. PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR PARENT(S) AND/OR GUARDIAN(S) DETAILS ARE CORRECT ON THE FOLLOWING FORM IN CASE THEY NEED TO BE CONTACTED AT ANY TIME DURING THE AUDITION PROCESS.

If you require any clarification of the above information or have any questions please contact Rohan Johnson at Doncaster Secondary College.

We wish you all the best of luck!
