The Victorian Parents Council are again hosting their Annual Seminar for parents and educators.

Dr.Glenn Melvin, Glenn is a senior lecturer and clinical psychologist at the Monash University Centre for Developmental Psychiatry & Psychology. Glenn’s research focuses on improving our understanding and capacity to prevent and treat mental health problems in children and adolescents. He has conducted research into school refusal, suicide prevention, non-suicidal self-injury and adolescent depression. He works clinically with young people and their families, consults to schools and teaches medical students about people in a unit on human lifespan development.

This session will outline how a strengths based approach can equip you as Parents to assist yourself and your child to build resilience and resilient thinking into approaches to daily challenges, problems, relationships and life.
Kylie Warry, Speaker, Author and Lead Trainer
Kylie is based in Sydney and travels throughout Australia delivering a variety of training programs to teams, schools, agencies and business.
Kylie has worked extensively with schools (both primary and secondary) facilitating for staff, parent and community members. She believes the Resilience Doughnut is an invaluable support for building personal and professional resilience and as a parent herself, she shares practical strategies to help build strong and resilient children and families.
Kylie is the Lead Trainer with Teamology, a training organisation based in Sydney. Kylie’s previous roles have been as Rehabilitation Manager, managing teams of rehabilitation professionals in Injury Management.
Kylie is also the author of The Enlightened Communicator and is a member of ASORC – Member of MBA (Corporate Trainers mentoring program)

Martine Oglethorpe, Accredited eSafety Presenter at Office of the Children's eSafety Commissioner, Parent Educator, Author and Counsellor.
Martine is a mother to 5 boys with a background in secondary education and A Masters in Counselling. Through her personal and professional work with families raising children today, she recognises the important role technology plays in the social and emotional wellbeing of young people. She has passionate interest in helping families to safely navigate the modern world of parenting in a way that offers understanding as well as practical and realistic strategies. Martine is an accredited speaker with the Office of the eSafety Commissioner and has presented to numerous parent groups, schools and teachers. Regular workshops with young people also ensures Martine has the most relevant and up to date information and perspective on what it means to be a child growing up today”

Josh Jones, Founder of the Just Be Nice Project | CEO at Odin Sports | Social Responsibility Advisor | Speaker and Educator
Leading by example, Josh created the Just Be Nice Project supplying new clothing to homeless Australians. Donations are given, one-for-one, for items purchased through the #JBNProject range.
Passionate about bridging the gap between social responsibility and corporate accountability to commercial outcomes, Josh extensively consults and mentors businesses and entrepreneurs, both non-profit and for-profit entities to provide commercially viable, socially responsible outcomes.
Believing that CSR doesn't begin and end at the cutting of a cheque for a non-profit, Josh relentlessly works towards raising the bar for the delivery of socially responsible business practice.
A lifelong entrepreneur, student and peak performer. Josh holds a BA in Philosophy, Media & Communications and English literature. A qualified Carpenter, professional photographer and musician, Josh maintained involvement in the performing arts while also delivering construction projects of over $12million value. Hardly a gifted athlete, Josh still transitioned from uncoordinated youngster to playing representative and VFL level football, always extracting maximum performance out of a range of disciplines.
Josh's goal is to constantly drive towards an outcome of genuine equality of opportunity for all people, and of course, Just Be Nice.
"Social Emotional issues facing gidfted and talented students"
Christine Ireland is the immediate past president of the Australian Association for the Education of the Gifted and Talented, has published chapters in Let The Tall Poppies Flourish and Giftedness Illuminated by Creativity. Christine has been a Secondary teacher for twenty years, and has been the gifted education coordinator in several secondary and primary schools. Christine has lectured at Melbourne University (Gifted Education units of the Master of Education) and at the Australian Catholic University. She has completed her Master of Education, a post graduate Certificate of Gifted Education, two Harvard Certificates of Education, and is currently completing her Doctorate of Education.
"Digital Citizenship and parents"
Casper Pieters PhD became a classroom teacher 10 years ago after a career of science and documentary making. Confronted with the effects of technology on young people and the slow and often reactionary responses by the education system, he decided to create a unique 3-tiered eLearning program. This program fosters informed discussions about the safe, savvy and sound use of tech amongst the stake holders of a school community, the students, their parents and teachers. He is writing an edufictional book series, called Team Savv-i, that addresses the Digital Citizenship issues for each age group starting with a number of graphic novels for Primary school students, followed by a Middle Grade novel and culminating in a series of Internet Quests for older students to encourage positive use of the Internet, locally, digitally and globally. His MG novel Team Savv-i The 10 Secrets of Cyberspace was released in 2016 at the Twitter HQ in San Fransisco and has been favourably received by academics, teaching staff, parents, and students alike.
