The Quebec Fiddle Weekend Concert

Sunday, November 4, 2018.  2pm.  Narracan Hall

Connections Rd, Narracan (near Moe), Gippsland, Victoria

Toe-tapping music from French Canada and Australia! Featuring international stars, Laura Risk (fiddle) and Rachel Aucoin (piano), popular Gippsland locals The Stony Six, as well as all the faculty and participants of the 2018 Quebec Fiddle Weekend music camp.

Rachel Aucoin's music career started as a multi-awarded classical pianist and has taken her on a path to becoming one of the most respected piano accompanists and dance musicians in Canada.  Rachel's music creates a bridge between the spontaneity and immersive folk experience and the aesthetic beauty and refinement of classical artistry. Rachel is  here in Australia for the first time.

Laura Risk is a fiddler whose love of the music of Scotland, Ireland, Cape Breton and Quebec has led her into a rich journey of performing and teaching.  She has several highly acclaimed albums to her name, and hs collaborated with a wealth of artists including Alasdair Fraser, Natalie Hass, Nicholas Williams, Hanneke Cassels... to name just a few.  Like Rachel, Laura is in Australia for the first time, and this intimate, beautifully-restored country hall is an incredible venue to hear their music live!

The Stony Six are a bunch of musicians hailing from South Gippsland, who together create a joyous and buoyant sound.  Their influences are broad and the resulting sound is eclectic and marvellous.  Utilising string, wind, sticks and vocal harmonies, The Stony Six recreate covers in new and surprising ways, as well as presenting their own originals.

The Quebec Fiddle Weekend annual camp is open to all players who enjoy the lively celtic music of French Canada, and this year's teaching staff and students will bring you an array of irresistible, highly-danceable tunes for your afternoon's enjoyment!
